I was looking at HPaq's newer ultra portable models, and I was hoping to get your thoughts on these:
TX1000Z
2510P
I know Compaq business models are of higher build quality and reliability than consumer Pavilions, they are lighter, and they have slightly better graphics, and more efficient CPU offerings (ULV C2D's), but I noticed the Compaq uses a slow 4200RPM PATA hard drive (even in the new 2710P). I'm wondering, if the price were equal on both models with maxed out specs, which one do you think is more desirable.
I'm mainly looking for an ultra-portable, and it has to be from HP. So I've basically narrowed it down to these two. There are other models, but they are either very outdated or are not yet released.
My other option is the 14.1" DV2500T with 64MB 8400M GS graphics, but I'm not convinced yet that it's small enough.
So, what are your thoughts? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I haven't tried out the tx1000z, but my work laptop is an NC2400 (predecessor to the 2510)... I don't know what your priorities are but for me there wouldn't even be a choice -- because ultra-portable to me means absolutely lightest possible machine. So I would choose the 2510.
My company sole sources PCs from HP, and the 2400 was the smallest/lightest one at the time, so that's what I got. I find it to be a nice machine, fast enough for my business purposes (it has a Duo CPU). I miss having a track pad but that's solved with the newer model. The 3 cell battery wasn't even available when we ordered, so I got a 6 cell and 9 cell. -
It really depends, what you want or need from the laptop. Both are small it really will come down to personal choice. I personally like my 14.1" DV2000z since it give me the right balance, the screen the computer it is light and small and the screen is the right size it is not too small or too big. The Tx1000z and the 2510p are 12.1" if you need a table pc go for the TX1000Z, if not the 2510p will be good enough plus better built. There is also a Business 12.1" Tablet pc coming soon if you want to wait.
Like I said early, it will really come down to personal preference to what you want and need. Because all the 3 models are going to be good.
BTW, are this options for your replacement of your broken DV6000? -
I'll find that out tomorrow.
The DV6000Z is a nice series, but I would like to avoid that model if at all possible because I fear the issue I'm having is related to the series (otherwise, they should have been able to fix it). I don't want an identical replacement with identical problems. So I'm going to try for a different system entirely.
Others have reported that they have only had success getting a consumer HP as a replacement for a consumer model, and I suppose that's fair. So I might be leaning toward the TX1000Z. I already have a V2000Z (14.1"), and it's certainly much more portable than my 15.4", but it's no 12.1". I'm thinking I can take a TX1000Z to more places than I could take my DV6000Z or V2000Z, without sacrificing performance that I have in my current system.
I'm hesitant to request a DV2500T, not because it's a bad system though... It's a nice system, and offers a great balance of mobility with performance, but I'm really after ultra-portability more than I am mobile gaming.
I also forgot that the Compaq business models don't have a type-3 expansion port, so I couldn't use my HP quick dock with them. -
I got the tx1000z with the touch screen for my son's use for college. It's a nice unit and works well. The tablet does not use a digitizer pen and takes awhile to get used to (writing style). Mine has the AMD TL60 Turion x2 with built in bluetooth, wireless a/b/g, webcam, card reader, fingerprint reader, remote and 120gb HD, 2gb RAM. The battery nicely integrates with the unit and I love the locking mechanism instead of the regular laptop hinge closure. I have Vista Ultimate installed and the exhaust area get really warm but if I choose the speed performance option it's cooler.

If you need an ultra portable go for that one. Even though my 5lbs DV2000 is agreat improvement over my old 8lb 15.5" zv5000z, it still fill heavy to carry on my back pack when ever I am also carrying books.
