Hey guys, got what I hope is a quick question. I just got my i5 Beats edition envy the other day and after a bit of playing with it I decided to (try) to update the ati drivers. I went to the website, downloaded(saved) the drivers as recommended and then uninstalled the old ones. But whenever I try to run the install I get an error saying its incompatible.
Am I using the wrong driver or is it something else? Is there a way I can at the very least get the old ati catalyst back on it? I'm just lost as updating the drivers on my intel desktop was cake.

What was the drivers in particular you were installing? Catalyst 11.1 (8.812.0.0)?

Yes, that one. It's what the amd site showed me as the appropriate driver after selecting Notebook->windows 7 64bit --> radeon hd -->5XXX

Did I mess up in the 4 step selection? Just trying to figure out what my options/possibilities are before ponying up for a recovery disk from hp.

If you have not deleted the recovery partition, you do not need to get a recovery disk from HP.

HP's recovery manager can do that easily for you, unless you removed all the HP stuff and the Recovery Partition.

I'm planing on doing a clean install and getting rid of the recover partition. Is there a reason to keep the HP recover partition if you have your own windows dvd? All the drivers and such can be found on the forums.

As for the question, I'm curious about this as well. I'm going to give it a try later, and will report back if successful.

Thanks for the help thus far. How simple is it to burn a recovery disk from the recovery partition? Or is it possible to just run a recovery form the hardrive? Trying to get this thing up and running correctly so I can use it for school. I've just started messing with the recovery manager, I just like to have backup if I poke around on it.

So no one has had this issue? I went to the recovery manager and "reinstalled" the ati graphics drivers. After the re-install the envy restarted and nothing changed. Still can't select the HD-5650 card.

Anyone mind explaining if/how I can re-install catalyst then try to do the drivers separately?

I don't think I recall reading about this problem. It seems very strange...

Have you spoken to a Tech Rep yet?

I would remove uninstall all of your display adapters in the device manager. Then let Windows update find the Intel HD driver, which it will, then download the Catalyst listed for your unit on the HP website. Doesn't get you 11.1, but gets you back to normal with the display switching, etc.

Noticed that the HP Support Assistant suggested a AMD/ATI graphics driver update, could it be the one mentioned or is it safe to install?

I successfully installed the update from the HP Support Assistant, and I'm now running Catalyst version 2010.0909.1412.23625 without issue.
