    What are your specs?

Can you check if you have a SATA Native Mode in your BIOS options? If you do, disable it and install XP.
If you don't, you will need to slipstream the appropriate Intel ICH SATA drivers into your XP disc. Since HP doesn't support XP on your model, you will have to download them from Intel's site, but they must be the correct one according to your specs.

Use a program like WinImage or UltraISO to extract the IMA file from the f6flpy32 executable you downloaded.
You can then use a program like nLite to slipstream this into your Windows XP disc.

There are posts in this HP Forum that will tell you how to add the SATA drivers needed into the XP install disk. Windows XP doesn't have the necessary SATA drivers and can't detect the HDD, that's why you are getting the errors.

Take a look at this thread and it will tell you everything you need to know:

Doesn't SP2 have the SATA drivers? Could nLite be used to just slipstream SP2 into XP and just use that?

I don't think that SP2 has the SATA drivers, but I could be wrong. Anyways if you look at the link in my previous post you'll find the information needed to install XP onto your HP laptop.

No SP2 does not have sata drivers you have to slipstream them with nlite. Or if your bios allows it you can disable sata native mode.

I wont go in details how to slipstream but here is some information.
Since your notebook uses 945 chipset you can get appropriate drivers here from intel. Install downloaded exe with -a as attribute (or whatever that is called. Just type in run path to your exe file and put -a on the end). In nlite chose to add multiple drivers and point it to directory in program files/intel... (check for full path) then on the next screen chose ich7m/dh.

    I hope this helps
