I have a Pavillion DV-7 1448dx computer running Vista 64. The computer will not boot. I have turned the computer off and restarted it and hit F10, but nothing. I have a CD ROM "Ultimate boot" that will work, but the computer stalls at the internal drive and will not go to the CD ROM to boot. Is there anyone who has some suggestions as to what to do next.

Clarifying here... but is it that your notebook is unable to post altogether or just unable to launch/boot into Windows? Is the HP logo appearing onscreen when you start it?

When I restart the computer from a off position I get what appears to be a starting operation. Although no HP logo appears. The screen remains black and the disc opperation begins to spin, but nothing else. Then the computer becomes quiet with no operation appearing. The only lights on the keyboard is blinking light adjacent to the "Caps Lock" and the "on" designation.

Assuming that you have not recently updated/upgraded your BIOs:

You may have a faulty memory module (hopefully that is all it is). I would first attempt to correct by removing the HDD and optical drive, unplugging any modems, WiFi/Bluetooth modules or other devices that you can access from the sides or bottom through panels. Leave only one memory module plugged in. Attempt to boot. If it fails, move the module to the other slot and repeat booting. Do the same with the other memory module. Try booting with it in one slot then the other. Hopefully, you will be able to weed out if it is either a faulty module or a bad slot. If neither work, then it is very possible that you may have bigger problems in the form of a mainboard.
