Hi, I wonder if anyone has had any success with undervolting the 9600m gt. If so can you post your results?
I get mine in a week and I'm tempted but scared to do it lol.

this one uses the puma cpu/chipset? if so then no program will undervolt it yet. rmclock, crystalcpuid, hell even amd owns overdrive tool doesnt recognize the cpu/gpu. been waiting almost a month and still no word if this cpu/gpu will ever get supported.

If you scared to undervolt, then dont do it yet. I suggest reading up first before attempting it.

Intels can be undervolted, the AMD pumas cant.

Its the new AMD mobile platform - Turion/Turion Ultra, M780G chipset & HD3200 integrated graphics.

Undervolting the graphics card? That's not going to be very effective . . . the GPU already does a good job at cutting its power consumption when 3D power isn't needed. I'm not even sure if it is possible undervolt the graphics card.

So I should be able to undervolt the p8600? Would it be worth the trouble to try? Or is not beneficial enough..

@ Chaz...I didn't know you couldn't undervolt the gpu...When I was reading the thread on undervolting I misunderstood!

You should be able to undervolt the P8600... I got the P8400 dv5t to undervolt successfully, although I can't use the max clock on it (at 8.5x multiplier) because RMClock won't do the half multipliers. The P8600 ends on an integer multiplier though (9x) so it should actually work out nicer.

The guide on undervolting is about cpu. Like say gpu cores handles power pretty well already, just update the drivers once in a while. You could undervolt the P8600. It should still use the Intel Step-Speed Technology. It could cut your cpu temperture by up to 10C.

what are the benefits of doing this...i tried undervolting and the cpu intensive program actually froze my lappy and when i rebooted my vista corrupted and i had to repair my registry! i am hesitant to do it again even though i know it was coincidental

another question i am having is that if i undervolt will this potentially raise my gpu temp since my fans won't kick in until my cpu his a certain temp?

Hey there! I just received my dv5t TODAY and one of the first things I did was undervolt the processor.

Results I wrote on a scrap of paper
    Before undervolting:
    Core 0: 69 C, Core 1: 62 C
    After undervolting:
    Core 0: 60 C, Core 1: 57 C

The surprising thing is I could probably push it even lower because I stopped before getting any BSODs or warnings. This was my second time ever undervolting a notebook and all I did was follow the guide closely. I can't really see how anything could go wrong considering how simple it is.

could you check your gpu temps before and after as well...i want to see if the fans kick on later which would increase your gpu temp since the cpu wont get a certain temp and initiate the fans...

    you know what I mean?

Well during my stress tests I also wrote down the GPU temps. Before undervolting, after a lengthy stress test, the GPU was at 54 C. After undervolting, and after another stress test, the GPU was at 53 C. When it's totally idle, the GPU sits at 42 C.
