    Hello,

I bought a Presario C700 laptop a few days ago and I noticed its lcd backlight isn't completely even. The picture below is the best snap I could get of this effect. The right side of the screen is a bit darker compared to the left side, but it's only noticeable in white or other clear backgrounds. There is also a "smudge" on the bottom right corner. Most people couldn't see this until I showed them and some said I was being too picky.

I can't compare to other units of this same model since these are only available online here where I live. I know this laptop is very cheap in the USA, but here in Brazil they cost around USD 1100. :(

The monitor is an AUO2274. You think this is expected for a laptop in this price tag and I'm being paranoid or I shouldn't settle with this screen?

PS: the pic is a bit exaggerated and I'm sorry for my bad english.

    Thanks,

    Gustavo

I wouldn't worry too much about it. My E1705 had a lot more backlighting issues than that.

Edit: After looking at it again, I would maybe try and get a replacement. It seems like the right side isn't receiving much of the backlight like it should.

My laptop has that too, where it's slightly brighter at the bottom, I say unless you're going to stare at a white screen while on your laptop, don't worry about it.

I have the same laptop. Mine also does this, but only after coming out of "Sleep" state is it noticable. I would say, as long as its not extremely noticable, you'll be fine. The screen is cheaply made, so i suppose the screen is not completely and evenly backlit.

strange.. I've noticed some unevenness in the screen in a c700 I saw in a shop (Im considering buying one)
my previous laptop (also an HP) had an uneven backlight which I just generally accepted..

Looking at your pic, yes I think you should request a replacement

strange, that laptop costs about 700 where I live, and I thought I was having a raw deal, but $1100.. now thats unbelievable :O

Thanks for your replies! I guess I'll just try to live with it. I called tech support regarding this and they said I'd have to send the lappy back and wait 20 days. They also said this is probably "within specs".

ubuntu23, taxes here are insane. A vostro 1000 starts at around $850 (with a Sempron processor). Also, the C700 you saw was this bad? Consider that the picture isn't really what I'm seeing. At full brightness you have to pay close attention to see that both sides aren't evenly lit. The problem is that I know it's there. :(
