Anyway, yesterday (exactly 24 hours ago) I spilt water on my laptop. This is the first time this has happened to me, and I have not researched the course of action I should take in such an event, but, well, let's say what I did is not necessarily what I should of done.

It was about a half of cup of water, mainly spilling on the right side of the keyboard.

As soon as it happened I grabbed a towel to clean it up, but I left the laptop on, charging, still on. Then after I cleaned up the mess, I returned to it and it was fine, but then the screen froze - the cursor could still move, but the screen was frozen. Then the cursor also froze. I turned it off.

Then I turned it back on...again... and it did the same thing. Then the third time it did not even start. I looked up on what to do, so I took a blow dryer on coolest setting and tried to do that. Still it would not turn on. Then I gave up for the night, set it upside down on a towel and went to bed.

I tried turning it on again this morning, no luck. Now it has been 24 hours, and it still refuses to turn on.

I called MicroCenter and my warranty does not cover accidental damage, so I am wondering. I have seen that people have dug theirselves out of situations like this, but I didn't know if how I reacted in the beginning (should of unplugged it and done that sort of thing with the laptop immediately) would of made it a goner or not. I really hope I can have a happy ending like the other water-spillers seem to have...

It seems to be completely dry from the outside, I do not know how to remove a keyboard to see what happened underneath. After 24 hours of sitting on the towel the towel has remained completely dry.

Is there anything I can do, or is it dead, and if so, what can I expect to pay for the price of a repair?

I had a laptop for 3 years and this never happened... 4 months into this new one and I've done it already! :(

Try contacting HP to see if you can send it in. So they can look inside the computer then if they determine its due to water damage they will give you the price to pay if you want to get it fixed.

Should have pull the plug and battery out straight away.

You let the water eventually reach the board and short out the circuitry.

Also after you did shut it down, you should have let it dry out for at least 24 hours before turning it back on.

I suppose I will send it in because I am a bit hopeless at this point. Hopefully I won't have to pay more than the laptop's value :)

my son spilled a can coke on laptop so of course it froze. We pulled the battery left the laptop outside under the sun for a couple days in the summer. It turned right back up. Bought a new keyboard from ebay no issues thus far.

I think you messed it buy leaving it on and attempting to turn it on.
