Hi everyone, I bought the compaq v2710ca and received it yesterday. I uninstalled all of the games and norton (and liveupdate), and was wondering if I could uninstall/delete a few more programs/folders.

    1) For the MS Office Trial, do I actually need to activate it to install, and subsequently uninstall it? Or does deleting the Microsoft office folder (containing the activation wizard) in the SWSetup folder completely remove it? Also, my laptop came installed with MS Ppt viewer 2003, how do I uninstall this (I don't see it in the add/remove programs list).

    2) Can I delete the Easy Online Service Finder folder? Do I need it to set up my wireless in any way?

    3) I deleted the AOL folders (I'm in Canada), was that ok?

    4) Is there anything that I should absolutely not uninstall via Add/remove programs?

    Thanks for your help :)

Before deleting anything please create restore disks. Make a disk of the SWSetup files before deleting anything from that folder.

I would just order a windows XP CD from HP/Compaq. It should be around $10 and then you don't have to install all these programs one by one.

Good luck trying to obtain the CD from HP. I was told that the only thing that I could obtain for my DV8339us was the restore disks. This means I could not do a clean install of the OS. I was told I would have to purchase a retail version of the OS.

If you want to go with the option of deleting the programs, go with Add/Remove Programs, and see whats needed. Also look at your procesess and google them inorder to find what they are.
