Sorry for this noob question, but is it necessary to uninstall the old graphics driver when installing a new one from the hp website?

I didn't think it was and I've updated my graphics driver twice with downloads via the hp website. I did not uninstall any old drivers each of those times.

However, I'm getting a lot of stuttering in skyrim on medium settings, and this is a game that should be running much smoother on this computer. Currently using "Driver Packaging Version 8.882.2.3-110930a-126477C-HP".

Uninstall old drivers, boot into safe mode remove driver stuff using ccleaner, boot normally and install new drivers.
