Hey guys
Since earlier this week my laptop has started behaving weirdly. The screen flickers abruptly. And the screen gets garbled as well. But it seems to have really been knocked out today. The temperatures were looking fine at 60C but on a reboot the screen has like six small screen showing up instead of one with the HP logo.
Is my GPU dead? If so what are my options now?

Is your warranty up? What was the purchase date?
Try connect an external monitor to check the problem. -
Hey man
EDIT: Yeah the 6 small screens was a sign of a dead GPU if i remember correctly. Ive seen it happen a few times in the past. -
Yeah my warranty is up, sadly. It was purchased in January 2008.
So is this laptop equal to a paper weight now? -
After talking to some people around it seems I *might* be able to get the Chip replaced.
Just wondering if the size of a 8400GS and its corresponding 9000 series chip are the same or different? -
Ok so thanks to some skilled technicians my Laptop is now completely fixed for sum of about INR 3000(USD 60).
For anybody in New Delhi having similar problems kindly contact me and I shall point you to the shop.
Wondering is there a BIOS upgrade to prevent the Heating up. I am currently using F.2D. -
Man, I wish I lived in Delhi for about the 20minutes it probably took to fix it...

8400M and 8600M are those nvidia mobile cards that fail:

Unsure if it is a Display Problem
