Greetings - I've had my dv2000t for two weeks now and I'm very happy with it. I reloaded it with XP Pro and all is working well - even the webcam. One strange thing though - as soon as I log in the peak RAM usage (Commit Change: Peak in Task Manager) has already peaked at 636 MB!! I have 1-Gb of RAM on-board - but wow thats really high. I'm thinking it might be IE7 - but I don't know. It peaks before I can bring up the Task Mgr so I can't look at the process tree and find the culprit. Has anyone else seen this - any ideas? No other "unusual" apps loaded - just the usual Office 2k3, Nero and Ghost Recon (2001 version - never caused a problem on other systems). TIA

Depends on what programs you are using. If you have a load of programs and processes open, then the amount of RAM you use, is going to be high. But seeing as though, you have just formatted and installed Windows again, you shouldn't have too many processes running. Have a look in Task Manager, to see how many you are using.

Also, if you have Norton installed on your notebook, that may be the culprit. Norton in well known to be a massive resource hogger. I'm sitting here and typing this, and i have 5 programs open (3 IE, 1 Windows Explorer and 1 Windows Media Player), and I'm using 400 MB.

Zero - Thanks for your reply - I haven't loaded (and don't use) Norton or McAfee or such. I've also gone thru msconfig and unchecked all of the startup apps - and it still peaks at 636/637. I just bought a Toshiba for my daughter and put IE7 on it (after reload) and I didn't notice the RAM peaking out so high. Makes me wonder what would happen if I only had 512-mb? I'm starting to think its IE7 but its only a guess. Any more input/comments would be appreciated!!

If it is IE 7, then you can check how much the program is using in Task Manager. It should display this unde the processes tab, and to the right of the name of the program (IE = IEXPLORE.exe), it should list the memory it is using. If you have other instantces open, then you can add them up, and that is the figure you Internet Explorer, is using in total.
