    $999 after $150 coupon

Anyone know what battery this will come with? I'm guessing the 6 cell, but don't know. Also, does this laptop take the same 12 cell as most of the other HP's? I think that is something like the DP390A or something... It's $149 from hp.com but it seems it can be had for ~$80 on Ebay.

Thanks for your advice/help. I've been agonizing about a laptop for the past month and I'm beginning to think that this will be the best deal for my needs. I went to Costco today but they didn't have any. I suppose they'll stock up when the coupon is active which will be August 1st.

One thing is for sure, you can't beat their return policy: 6 months, no questions asked.

Is the m725a processor the 1.6 M centrino?

    Thanks again.

The battery product number is not DP390A, but it is the PB995A. The costco laptop most probably comes standard with the 6 cell since that is what HP uses on most of their retail models(unless costco allows customization with that coupon, then you can add the 12 cell). Do remember that the 12 cell battery sticks out from underneath the laptop, but it gives more battery life and also allows for more air flow and also gives an angle to the laptop which helps in easier typing.

12 cell battery for the dv4000

    Yes, the 725a is the 1.6GHz Pentium M w/t 400MHz FSB & 2MB L2 cache.

    Miner,

Thanks a lot for the information! I figure it probably won't have a 12 cell since this is an in-store promotion, however, one can hope. I don't think it usually comes w/ the remote, however, that's a very cheap upgrade. Thanks again.

    Miner,

Wow, that battery is $179 from hp.com?! Any recommendations on where to buy cheaper instead of Ebay. I'm always a little wary of Ebay...

I've heard that hp customer service is very gracious at trading 6 cells in for 12 cells w/ a reasonable dollar exchange, but I'd like to avoid that in case I want to return the laptop for whatever reason.

Are there any dependable generic manufacturers out there?

Well, exchanging your battery directly from HP is probably the best/easier option. There aren't that many generic manufacturers that I know of, who make these HP batteries. Bestbuy & some retailers also had closeouts on some HP batteries, might be worth checking them out.

Techexcess also stocks some batteries but they are only $10 cheaper than HP.

Yep, it can be done...I dont know why HP released this model(725a) when the rest of them make use of 533MHz FSB....maybe they thought modders might be a good market to attract  (or maybe just to push out old stock)

This is a great deal. I actually bought the HP invent that they used to sell but it was right after they finished the sale. One of the pixels is out on the screen so I am returning it and purchasing this one. Mine has a little better processor (a 735, which is 1.7GHz) but this one has a hard drive that is 20BG bigger, 512MB more of ram (for a total of 1,024), one more usb slot, one more pcmci slot, and better speakers (altec lansing; mine were just gineric). Not to mention the fact that I paid $1,300 for my laptop five months ago. Sort of a no-brainer. Hopefully there is something little wrong with the one that I get so I can return it in six months and upgrade again.

Oh, and just in case you didn't know; when you return something to costco they give you the original amount that you paid for it back in cash. So I will get $1,300, buy the $999 laptop, and pocket the rest. Once I returned my xbox because it broke and I told them I was just going to exchange it for the same exact product. They still gave me $225 (the amount that I originally paid for it) even though it only cost me $185 to buy again.

You don't have to have anything wrong with your laptop to bring it back! :)
I don't know how they do this and hopefully the policy won't change because of people abusing it, however, you can bring it back for whatever reason w/in 6 months.

I just had a buddy who brought back his perfectly working 2 1/2 year old TV that he had bought at Costco. He only had the receipt, no box or anything. They gave him a full refund and he purchased a large flat screen from them!

Laptop/Computers have a 6 month return policy and everything else has a 3 year return policy. That in itself seems like a good enough reason to me to purchase my laptop from Costco. You hear so many horror stories of people being unhappy w/ their purchase down the road or the new model makes you cringe that you bought in early. This return policy offers a lot of "peace of mind".

Can you tell me where I can get this coupon and the details of the sale? I couldn't find anything on the costco site.

    Thx! :)

If you're a Costco member, you should have gotten a "Passport to Savings" coupon book sent to you quite sometime ago. I unfortunately threw mine out, but my brother saved his for me!

A lot of times, (I THINK), they'll have the coupons available at the cash registers.

    Hello All,
Thanks much for the info on the coupon, this was the computer that I was looking to purchase.

Some questions if you don't mind:

    1. For those of us who are no Costco members, any ideas as to how we can par take on this deal?

    2. Is it still running?

    3. Is it for custom configurations only or do they have in stock merchandise? I've never been inside of a costco before.

Thanks so much for the info!

    All the best,
    Eddy C.

Anyone taking advantage of this coupon tomorrow? I was just at my local Costco and didn't see any of these models, I imagine(hope) they'll put them out tomorrow?

They did have the HP Livestrong edition laptop out for $999.99.

I priced same config at HP and it came to $1168 after rebate (without student discount or coupons). I am in NY and they charge tax so that sux. costco has it listed on its homepage.... it does only come with 6 cell battery. This deal doesnt seem as good as the 6000 they offered a few months ago for about the same price that included XP Pro, Bluetooth etc.

For a Costco configured laptop, I would think they would have thrown in more of the upgraded features. I am not so impressed.

The main thing that is making me buy this configuration at Costco is the fact that you can bring it back within 6 months for a full refund. Undoubtedly there will be better laptops coming out for the same price or maybe even cheaper and it would be an easy, no-hassle upgrade.

I just got this today at Costco. It's the dv4155cl, I priced it comparable at hp.com for about $1400, so it's a pretty good deal at $999. The Dell coupon's are better pricewise and no XP pro, but can't beat the return policy at Costco.

Coupons done. Though you might be able to find one in a store and convince a mgr to honor the deal. They have a lot of 6000s on the website.

Unfortunately, the web site says it is only available for in-store pickup. I got lucky and jumped on this when it first came out and I was able to have it shipped to me in 2 days.

For those that are even thinking about getting a 12 cell battery, this is a KILLER deal!

Too bad I'm still waiting on my raincheck for the computer from Costco...

    :(
