I've been using a nc6230 at work and just absolutely love it except for the LCD (which is just a little too dim and a bit washed out). Otherwise, though, it is excellent. Great build quality, excellent keyboard, no hot spots on the top (and just a bit warm on the bottom), feels very solid. I am looking into get a personal machine for home use and really would like to get something similar to the 6230, but I want a duo chip in it (and a better monitor)

Does anyone know if HP is doing a refresh of their 6220/6230 line? They've been releasing several new laptops lately, but all of them are in the 6+ lbs catagory and I really want my personal computer to be ~5lbs

And please, come out with a better monitor. Its fine for work and when you are looking strait at it, but for anything else, its rather mediocre...

Not that I know of, but then again, I only see models of this line after you do.

There are other options like the THinkPad T60 and Dell Lattitude D620 which also offer good quality. The last HP business laptop I saw the NC6210 has a dim screen as well. The replacements for the NC6220/6230 are coming. I don't know that the screens will be any brighter. The just announced Fujitsu s7110 will have a bright glossy screen if you are interested in glossy.

The new HP/Compaq line of business notebooks have been a bit delayed. First one out was the nx9420, and from now on uptil June HP will be releasing some really cool peices of machinery! The nc6220/6230 line will be replaced by the nc6400 - 14,1" WS, CoreDuo with a weight of bout 2,1 Kg and so on. 6120/6130 are also being replaced and so is the nx8220.. Stay tuned peeps! ;)

good to hear, i've actually been thinking between:

dell D620, thinkpad t60. but it would be far more interesting to wait a month or two (i can wait) when hp's new toys come out and when thinkpad z61t gets released before buying.

    sexy!

Personally looking forward towards the new nc2400/nc4400 lightweight notebooks due in May.. 12,1" wide 1,3 kilos w/o optical... rawr!

And for the mobile workstation freaks HP won't disappoint you: nw8440 ( nc8230 look ) and nw9440 ( nx9420 look ) coming in many flavours of both ATi & Nvidia models through 'build to order' 3,3Kg with 4 hours of batterylife on a 17,1" WS with CoreDuo - As said, Good things comes to those who wait.
