Okay, so this problem is driving me nuts!

So HP tells me I should download the new BIOS update( I have a Compaq Presario V6000), and I download the F.3D version,. IMmediately after I do this.......

If I leave the computer on idle for like I think its exactly 15 minutes(or I think its 20), it will show the Blue screen of death, and restart.

The BSOD states something like KERNAL IN PAGE STACK ERROR or something.

How have I tried resolving this?

I tried reflashing the same version, and that did not work. I went to HP support, and they said I should try reverting my computer back to factory settings. I back up all my data, try that, and it did not work.
They also told me to do a hard drive test. Mine failed, the exact error is #1-07 FAILED. They said this is different from my BIOS problem, and they said I need a new hard drive.

They then said I have to bring in my computer and pay like 300 bucks LOL. My comptuer friends told me I should nuke my computer, and then just reinstall the OS. I also read somewhere that you can reset the BIOS by swtiching pins or something, but there is no way in hell im doing that, because I have no CLUE what im doing. But then i read somewhere that I can just flash a previous version of the BIOS? Wouldnt this work? (HP told me that that is impossible) And if so, where can I find places for older version of the BIOS?

In short: I am a computer noob, I have no idea what Im doing, I dont even know what the BIOS is, please help ! :(

I am assuming it is original config? And if I do run it in safe mode, what happens after that?

How do I run a memory test?

And I ran a hard drive diagnosis, and got the error message in my original post(look in original post, edited)

HP's right, your HD is dying and needs to be replaced. Go get a new 2.5" SATA drive from Newegg/etc. Remove the notebook's battery, remove the old HD, transfer the adapter from the old HD's SATA connector to the new HD, drop the new HD in, boot from your OS recovery DVD (you did make recovery DVDs?) and reinstall the OS. Or see the clean Vista install sticky in this forum. The BIOS upgrade was coincidental.

Checking your memory with MemTest86+ first wouldn't hurt though. Let it run for at least half an hour.

Hi you may find this thread useful at HP's website on the hard disc error

    http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service...47626+1214923764974+28353475&threadId=1028728

It appears to be either the mainboard (on laptop)or bad sectors (on the disc). If you can, try taking the hard disc out and put it in another laptop or hard disc enclosure to see if the disc works out of the laptop. If it does it is probably the laptop that has the problem. If it is the hard disc try running check disc and defragment the drive.

Try looking for your previous version of your bios on the HP support page as per link below-make sure you have the correct model no. for your laptop

    http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Look...ng=en&h_cc=uk&h_query=presarrio+v6000&x=7&y=8

I would advise doing a google search on the kernel error as there seems to be a lot of answers.

    Hopes this helps anyway.
