    I have a NC4000 with a 1.3Ghz 1MB CPU. I noticed that this model can only support up to 1.6Ghz 1MB CPU.

My question is what will happen if i install a new 1.8Ghz 2MB CPU on? Will that act kill my computer or make any damage at all? Will it run at the new CPU's full speed or only 1.6Ghz 1MB as this is the highest it can run and support?

The BIOS wont support the new Dothan(2mb) CPU's...so it will not properly recognize the processor and it may either run at a lower speed, wont boot at all or might fry something if the power requirements of the cpu are higher than what is supported. The latter is probably unlikely since you are just upgrading in the same processor family.

I suggest you stick with the Banais(1mb) chips which you already know will work & upgrading from the 1.3 to a 1.6GHz processor will certainly improve perfromance.
