No. HP puts a whitelist in their BIOS that only allows a few "approved" cards.

Do some research. I just bought an HP Broadcom 4321 802.11n card off eBay for $22 shipped from Hong Kong and it dropped right in and worked on my dv9917cl. I noticed that there was a Broadcom driver on the HP site for my model so I fiugred my odds were pretty good. In this case I was right. I wasn't 100% sure it would work but I figured my worse case scenario was to flip the card on eBay if it wasn't on the whitelist and it was only $22 out of pocket. Hacking the BIOS wasn't an option for me.
