I've got a HP DV6220TX that came new with a 1280x800 res screen.

Question is it possible to replace the screen with something that is higher resolution or is it cheaper just to buy a whole new laptop?

Other than the screen res I have been completely satisfied with the laptop, and for those that find 1280x800 enough I wouldn't change as the screen looks great, but for my software applications a little bit higher res would be better.

    What can I do?

    All ideas welcome....

yes, its possible to change the lcd screen to a higher resolution....laptop or monitor lcd screens are LVDS....and on laptop, they are 6bit LVDS screens (very few cases, where laptops are equiped with 8bit LVDS)...6bits or 8bits is is used for serial data, so, dont get confused with these bits or mixed them up with computer bits....

now, back to the question....suppose you want to use 1920x1200 lcd screen....first you got to make sure that your laptop support that resolution on external monitor...if it does then there is no problem....
second, you need to post the model number of your screen and for that, you need to open your laptop screen....the model number is written at the back of the lcd...

in this way, i can check the datasheet of your screen and give you the exact (size/pinouts) replacement model.

if u change this lcd to a higher resolution, there will be a little change you will notice, like when you will boot your laptop, the logo and post screen will come small (since the laptop is programmed to display 1280x800....it will still come on that resolution, but, will look smaller on 1920x1200 LCD)

if u are capable of changing the screen yourself...then i dont think that it will cost you more then $250 at the most....the best place to buy lcd screen is ebay....cheap and good.

if u can provide your lcd model number, then i will be able to help you more on that.

ok, with a little research i came to find out the model number of your lcd panel...
    its from LG Philips...LP154W01.

let me check the replacement on this model with a higher resolution and same connector and i will post the results.

there are a bunch of models that will work fine for you. from the likes of lg, samsung, auo, chi mei, sharp etc... all you need to make sure is it has the right mounts to be able to bolt in there without issue, they all will have the same standard plug, if the inverter plug is different simply swap the new inverter or the one on your screen you have now it will work fine.. if aliazhar doesnt get you models i can get them from numerous companies. lmk if i can also help

yes true...but there is no "standard" plug....every manufacturer installs there own plug type/size....so, you cannot say that there is a standard plug on all of them.

inverter plugs on laptop are all same...they all use mini size plugs on the ccfl coz its space saving.

I've got an HDX 16T 1354CA which is only available in 1366x768 in Canada. I'd like to see if it is possible to upgrade the screen to the 1920x1080 that is available in the US. I am convinced it is possible. Any advice?
