I am planning to get a new notebook soon from hp(dv95XXt). My question is should i get the hd optical drive for $400 more or just wait and get a dvd optical drive? My thinking is that since one can upgrade the optical drive why not wait 6 months to a year when prices go down. If i wanted to spend more for the hd optical drive, what about blue ray. Maybe wait until they come out with a combo blue ray/hd optical drive.(I know that would cost a lot at first)

I think it's better to get a normal drive and upgrade when the prices drop.

pardon my ignorance but what is the optical drive (do you mean HD DVD or blu-ray?)?
Is it available on the DV6500?

All the CD-Drive/DVD-Drives fall into the optical drive category. It means that they use lightwaves to record data.

Has there been any word on a combo blue ray/hd drive for notebooks? If not, how long will it take?

Anyway, the debate is kind of moot at this point in time because I just checked and HD-DVD optical drive is not an option on the dv9500t. In fact, the only two choices are the regular DVD SuperMulti and SuperMulti with Lightscribe.
