Upgrade processor, HP dv6 1308EL

Hi all!

I am looking for better performances from a laptop, but I don't feel like buying a new one, since the one I have is new..

I wanted to upgrade the processor (this is part of a bigger plan that includes adding 4 gb of RAM to 8gb and adding an SSD in the place of the optical drive).

After a few days of research, I thought about installing the Intel T9900, since I guess this is the best one I can choose..

I now have an Intel P7450, and my motherboard is an Intel GM45 or PM45, don't know which one..
Both processors have the same nm (45), the same socket, but the TDP of the T9900 is a little bit higher, 35 instead of 25..Is this a problem?

Besides, Should I assume my BIOS support the T9900 since it's a processor actually used on other laptop with an Intel GM45?

I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, but maybe you should try selling your current laptop and buying another one.

I'm no techie, but I know that swapping cpu's can be a real pain in the butt sometimes, especially if they're different models... Plus, I just looked on eBay and the T9900 was selling for at least $180. That's half of a newer and better laptop.

If you're just a casual user like me, than 4gb is actually plenty of ram for doing just about anything and if you don't have the money and you'd really like an SSD, then I'd advise you to just save up a bit more and buy something used on Craigslist. There's plenty of laptops going for $300-$400.

Higher TDP will mean that it will generate more heat (1.4x as much, in your case). If your temps are pretty low under load, then the TDP increase should be fine. If they're high (80-90) you won't want to do it.

I first thought of upgrading the processor because a new laptop with those characteristics is pretty expensive..
I'm European, and I can't find a good laptop (I admit I'm looking for a 14", the most expensive range) with a good processor, an SSD and a decent graphic card for less than 8-900 euros, while upgrading everything on mine would cost about 300 euros..

My CPU temperature is something like 45 degrees in idle, it's pretty high..But I thought that a better processor if not under stress would have lower temperature being better..

Or I was thinking about getting a good SSD that I could use on a future laptop, too, and that's it..would it improve significantly the performance of my pc?

Then I'll save some money and buy a new one at Christmas..
