I am looking to upgrade my compaq v2000 ram (right now it has two 256mb ram sticks installed). I want to get 1gb ram but Im not really sure what will work w/ my laptop. What would you guys reccomend or what will be compatable w/ the v2000? What should I expect to pay for this amount of ram?
Thanks for any help

The Compaq should come with DDR2 @ 533 MHz. You can two sticks of 512MB by OCZ.

Which version of the V2000 do you own? If it is the newer Intel based versions, then DDR2 is the correct RAM. If it is the AMD based and older Intel based systems, then you will need DDR memory.
If it is DDR2 then it should cost around ~70 - 80 for a 1GB stick. DDR's are little bit more expensive ~$90 - 120. -
It is the v2000 w/ the amd turion 64 processor.

miner, if i wanted to upgrade the ram on a v3000z with turion x2, should i buy 200 pin DDR333 PC2700 SODIMM ram?

No, you will need DDR2 memory. AMD switched to DDR2 memory starting with the Turion X2.
AMD introduced a new socket for mobiles last month called S1. all processors(Turion X2, new Sempron) based on this socket will use DDR2 memory.
DDR memory is only supported by older single core Turion, Sempron, mobile Athlon64 based on socket 754 or 939 -
The V2000z doesnt use the new turion x2 so your going to have to get DDR. The v3000z Uses DDR2
Upgrade ram for v2000
