So, I've startet using my dv5- which was laying around and collecting dust.
Tomorrow, I'm going to upgrade to 8GB RAM and SSD. What I do want to know is if this laptops does support a Quad core? I've allready, know that heat can be a issue. But se away from that. I think I got the solution for this issue with HP laptops, but have not tried anything yet and want to wait before it is confirmed working.
So is this possible?
I do got Pavilion dv5-1095eo.
With a P8400, 9600M GT and Intel PM45 chipset.
I know that infact that Chipset does support the QX9300, but I have bad experience with HP. I've also won't be suprised if HP has made some kind of 'limit'.

The question is whether or not quads were ever an option for it. If not, the cooling system won't support it and, even if it works, your laptop would overheat all the time.
The QX9300, being an extreme edition processor, is almost assuredly too hot for it to take and I personally wouldn't even think about putting that in there. -

No it never did come with it. The highest CPU was the T9800 on the special edition.
If you look in the DV5 owner's lounge, you can upgrade your BIOS to do DUAL IDA overclock and also have no whitelist. See last few pages on that thread or first page for link. -
UPDATE:
I've flashed my BIOS. Now, I think I'm just going to change the P8400 with my T9600 and overclock it. This was good, now I do not need to ask for another modded BIOS for my Wireless card upgrade
I can't REP you up at the moment, it says I have given too much REP around last 24 hours -
List of Intel Core 2 microprocessors - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
You have a Socket P type CPU, so you would have to replace with another Socket P. Looks like the Q9000 and Q9100 are the only Core 2 Quads with that socket type. So the processors should fit but idk about heat or software compatibility.
Also those processors aren't produced anymore but you could prob find one somewhere.
You'd prob be better off just getting a new cheap laptop though. -

There have been cases where CPUs that were not offered work in an HP notebook just fine. At other times what happens is that the BIOS won't report the correct CPU but in windows it does. And then there are those times when it just won't boot if the BIOS doesn't support it.
There is of course one expensive way to find out.
Though, you may want to try the Q9100 first.
BTW, someone reported that they were running a X9100 in the DV5. See here
Being that it has the same TDP as the QX9300, it just might work. -

I've did some testing about my tempratures today. I'm going to open this laptop up and repast CPU and GPU, but here is my idle tempratures, what do you think? Good or bad? I have not cleaned out my vents for very very long time, I can actually hear the dust blocking
-
Those are good idle temps. Better than mine. Looks like I have to repaste my DV5.
-
I'm actually trying out diffrent things to keep this laptop cool. This was just exprimental. I'll do moreAnd let you know if you're intrested.

UPDATE:
I've repasted and cleaned my DV5 with Noctua NT-H1. I just like this more and more!!
Update!! Here is my new tempratures, doing a one more mod in weekend to bring them even lower
I think I'm allready ready for a QX9300 -
