Hello everyone! I've upgraded my ze4315US, so far I've put in a 7k60 (awesome HD, I recommend newegg..about $140.00) I also put 1 gig or ram in her (YAY, xmas sales, about $100) Since this lappy has a 1.53ghz AMD Mobile Athlon cpu (1800+), I was wondering before I rip her open if anyone knows if the cpu is soldered in, or if it is socketed. I think I can go up to a 2500+, I know I have on board graphics but I would rather just get a faster cpu, rather than buying a new lappy. Thanks for this forum, it's great!

I would agree the Hitachi 7200 is the way to go. I have the 40Gb version in my T41. It is like my desktop. Unfortunetly, I don't know whether the CPU is socketed or soldered.

I would expect the CPU to be socketed. Be aware that the BIOS may not be completely compatible with a different chip. For example, I swapped a Mobile-class A64 into my zv5000z in place of the original DTR-class chip (same core, different default voltages) and PowerNOW! broke, I have to set my clock speed manually with ClockGen (which I was doing anyhow, but still). Flash in the current BIOS first and you'll probably be fine. Good luck finding where the CPU is, on my z it's accessed from the underside of the case.

I just updated my bios last month (anal like that) hmmm...looking at the AMD websight, it looks like the voltage for the 2500+ is the same...now as far as finding the cpu and ripping her apart...yea that's gonna be a chore. Anyway thanks for the replies. One more thing, anyone with the hp ze laptops, maxing out the ram and new HD will make this a new machine....I mean the thing is like twice as quick, web pages load FAST, programs come right up, and multitasking is now possible, onboard video can be set to 128MB...which shocked me...I was under the impression I could only get 64MB, go figure. Not to bad for a budget notebook with about 900 invested. I guess after the new cpu I will have about a grand invested.
