Hi there (my first post here).

I have a HP Compaq nw8240 notebook with native slot 1024MB DDRII 533MHz RAM (Micron technology) ; I bought another stick from crucial with the same specs (but Samsung) 1024MB 533MHz. BIOS recognised the new stick and asked to confirm the upgrade to 2048MB. I expected to see a noticeable difference in performance, but go the feeling that after the upgrade the system was less responsive. So I downloaded CPU-Z to see how the 2 RAM sticks were performing. I see in the memory and SPD tabs that the RAM is firing at 266MHz, and not 533Mhz.

I have attached the screenshots from the 2 slots (Slot#1, Slot#2). EDIT: {sorry not sure how to post screenshots on this forum)

Can someone explain to me what is going on? Did I buy a wrong memory module? ( Double checked with Crucial, and made sure I will not have incompatibility issues). How do I rectify this?

Please help me as I am not an expert, but understand some technical stuff.

    Much appreciated,
    S

DDR= Double Data Rate, so multiply 266 x 2. The reading is correct.

Wow, this is becoming the new "Can I Upgrade My GPU Question". Someone care to add this into a RAM Guide (powerpack)?

I'd check the bios reading just to be sure when questioning your ram speed.
