Always trying to max out the performance of my machines and today I delved into my dv6-6140US for a CPU upgrade.

I had already installed a Sandisk SSD & G.Skill Ripjaw DDR3-1600 RAM prior to this upgrade.

The stock 3500M runs at 1.5GHz/2.4GHz clock whereas the 3550MX runs at 2GHz/2.7GHz so even during regular tasks I notice a difference in speed.

The 3500M also has a bus speed of 1333MHz whereas the 3550MX is 1600MHz. Unsure if the chipset will support the higher speed though.

Took the unit apart and removed the A8-3500M with it's useless OEM dry grey thermal paste.

Installed a shiny new A8-3550MX with fresh Arctic Silver paste.

Also removed all the mesh dust filters from the inside for better airflow.

I know the new CPU has a TDP of 45w vs my old 35w, but the CPU seems to run cooler due to the new paste/mods.

My ratings in 7 64bit went from:

    CPU 6.6 to 7.0
    RAM 7.3 to 7.4
    Video 5.9 (stayed the same)
    Gaming Video 6.5 to 6.6
    HDD 7.9 (stayed the same)

So for the $75 investment, I'm happy! :)

Congrats! Only thing left to do now is over clock that beast! Llano was a good generation as it had its multipliers partially unlocked even though turbo wasn't that effective. Essentially you could over clock the CPU to the turbo speed and be okay.

Awesome job. Where did you purchase the CPU from?
