Been lurking these forums for months, just finally got my DV6-6000 CTO :D.

It's a big improvement over the previous models in most areas. Quieter fan, less heat output, and a much better touchpad for example. The build quality was meh when I got it but fine. Only problem I have is the low resolution screen...there's just not enough space for the work I do.

Is it possible to replace the screen on this laptop safely with a higher resolution screen from a different laptop? Apparently the replacement screen needs to be the same size (15.6", or 13.6 X 7.6), use the same backlight (LED), be supported by the graphics card (I assume the 6770m and integrated sandy bridge graphics support 1080p), not use too much power for the laptop, and the connecter on the screen has to be on the same side as the port on the laptop (I think?). I'm not really sure about any of this so correct me if I'm wrong please.

Would a 1080p screen from the Envy 15 line work? It seems to have the same specs as the DV6-6xxxx screen, other than the resolution. Laptopscreens has them here for 120 dollars (scroll down to the 1080p screens). It seems as though they would work fine in the the new DV6 model.

The only issue that I could arise seems to be the location of the connector. Does anyone know if the connector on the DV6-6xxx's screen is located on the right or left side of the laptop? The connector on the Envy screen is located near the bottom left of the back of the screen.

Can you guys recommend any 1080p screens to replace this crappy DV6 screen? Does it have to be from HP, or are there better quality screens from other manufacturers that would work fine? Would that 1080p Envy screen work fine?

Sorry for all the questions...obviously I've never replaced a laptop screen and don't want anything to go wrong  . I just want a nice 1080p display for my new laptop, and no, I don't want to use an external monitor :p .

Well does anyone think the 1080p Envy screen would work in the DV6?

I heard that 1080p screens use a connection (dual channel) which is not compatible with the DV6.

That's the truth. If there ever was a DV6-6xxxx series with 1080p screen, then you would need the LCD cable from that model.

LCD panel connector itself is the same, cable meant for lower resolution doesn't have all the pins connected. Problem is the motherboard end, pretty much every laptop model has own type of connector there so it's quite impossible to find replacement from some other make/model.
