Hey guys, did a search and came up blank...
I am looking to upgrade the internal wireless card of my dv6408nr to a card that supports draft N networking. I tried an extra Intel 4965 a/b/g/n card my friend had and the computer would not even boot.Is anyone aware of an internal card that would work? I hate to order something and have it lock up like the Intel card caused. Alternatively is there a way to make the Intel 4965 work? FWIW, I am looking to avoid a USB or Express Card solution.
Thanks in advance,
Smitty

What card did your notebook come with? Wireless N requires 3 antennas for the 4965AGN
HP did have a whitelist of wifi cards a while ago, but it usually boots up and says you cannot use that card.
Are you sure the card was inserted properly? -
The 4965 was properly seated and I connected a spare antenna to #3.
I have installed 9 of the 4965 cards in the past week (all in Dell XFRs, which are a beast compared to the dv6408), so I feel pretty confident everything was properly connected and what not... -

Check the service manual and/or partsurfer.hp.com for the part # of HP's wireless N card for your notebook and search for that # on eBay. HP has a whitelist on their BIOS that locks out "unapproved" internal wireless cards.

After spending over 90 minutes being bounced around HP I am no closer to an answer than last night.
The service manual for my computer does not list an a/b/g/n card as an option.
Is anyone with a a/b/g/n card in their laptop interested in pulling off the cover and letting me know what the replacement part # for their internal wireless card is? -
Yeah ill let you know later.

The wireless broadcomm A/b/g/n card for HP's uses 2 antenna's It has a spot for a third antenna connecter to be solderd in place but it isnt. I know this because i have upgraded my brothers dv6604nr to wireless N i removed the wireless card from a tx1000 serries. http://cgi.ebay.com/HP-Pavilion-V30...ryZ45001QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem would work.

I forgot to add your AMD system i belive cant use Intel wireless cards.

You don't need all 3 antennas for N to work on the 4965AGN, you'll only get the slower 130 Mbps, but N will still work.
If you want to hit 300 Mbps speeds, than you need all 3 antennas connected. -
Thank you very much for the help! -
HP laptops like broadcom adapters...
I used a Broadcom 4321 A/B/G/n with good results. Computer recognized it right off the bat and didn't need to run the driver update I downloaded for it. YMMV.
Thanks again for all the help...
