I am changing the hard disk of my laptop from 80gb to 320gb. for the primary drive i.e. c: i can use the recovery disk that i created to load the os and the drivers.

Now the question is how can i create the recovery drive d:

I would prefer to have the hp recovery partition. if there is use of some other software like norton ghost then i would prefer to use any free software.

easiest thing to do would be to use a program like DriveImage XML to backup the recovery partition (and normal drive, if you wish) to an external HDD; and then move it back to the new HDD.

No only the factory settings in your primary partition.

The purpose of the Recovery Disks you made (I am assuming you are talking about the HP Recovery Disks created with the maintenance program) is to reload ALL of the notebooks original software onto the same or new HD in case a problem arises. A complete format of the new or original drive will take place.

The software on the HD will look just as it did when you purchased the notebook new. As long as your notebook bios will support the larger harddrive you will have no problems and ALL the partitions will be created during the Recovery installation process.
