Does anyone that has a DV6500t ever upgraded their network card?

I have a laptop coming my way pretty soon, but I ordered the 3945 instead of the 4965N.

I'm starting to mildy fret, seeing as how the N-cards are supposedly superior at receiving Wireless-G signals as well.

Anyways, I was worried that because I didn't buy the 4965 first hand, the laptop I bought might only come with two antennas.

Does anyone with a 6500 have any experience with the antennas/upgrading?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know, HP laptops support only "made-for-HP" cards, which means you have to buy HP-branded Intel 4965AGN and not the generic one.

The reason is simple - profit; HP-branded card costs 2-4 times more than the generic one.

Really? When I was customizing the notebook, all I saw were Intel Cards, not HP branded ones.

Orrrr - maybe I'm missing something. Are they really?

I have the 3945 and I've had no problem what so ever, even with random disconnections as some people experience. AIM shows I've been connected for 8 days...I think I need to reboot :)

You can return the laptop after receiving it for a new one. Of course, you have to wait for another one to be built up and sent.
The 3945 will be fine for a couple more years, even 2200 works fine these day.

HP has a BIOS lock on non-certified cards. They are still the same as any aftermarket Intel, Atheros or Broadcom card except for the PCI-ID's of these cards which are the only ones capable of passing through the BIOS check. The laptop wont boot if the BIOS recognises a 'unsupported' wireless card. There are workarounds available but it is quite involved and screwing up would render the system unbootable...
