Do you guys think this RAM would work with the 8510p: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220229

I've also never installed new RAM before, are there any tips beyond what HP says in their guide?

Also will I have any problems installing a 7k200 with windows XP? One of the reviewers on newegg claimed that this HD wouldn't work with windows XP, but that makes no sense.

Lastly, what's a good method for installing the HD once I put it in? Should I just burn some recovery disks then install the HD? Do I need a copy of XP?

Thanks for reading, any help would be appreciated. Sorry if these questions have already been answered.

The memory should work fine with your system. As for as the HDD is concerned you will probably have to slipstream SATA drivers into your XP disc for it to recognise the HD. You will either need a copy of XP or use HP's recovery discs if you system shipped with XP. Burn the recovery discs from your existing setup since that is the only way you can go back to factory state.

Since both the drive that would come with the laptop are SATA, you can just use the restore CD's with that drive.
