I currently have a 1.83 core duo on my HP nc8430. Was wondering what is the fast processor I can upgrade this to? What kind of motherboard does my nc8430 have?

You can upgrade to a faster Core Duo, or one of the Merom Core 2 Duos. If you want more speed, stick to these three processors:
    T7200 (2.0GHz)
    T7400 (2.16GHz)
    T7600 (2.33GHz)

Anything lower than a 7200 is going to be about as fast as what you have now...or slower. The new Santa Rosa processors (T7100, T7300, T7500) will not work.

Is there a big, noticable difference between 1.83 and 2.33?

Big difference... I don't know if you would really notice a big difference. I guess certain apps would benefit from the faster processor. If you only have 1 gig of ram installed you will see a big difference going to 2 gig with most all apps. More ram is the biggest performance bang for the buck in my opinion and it's usually a much easier upgrade too.
    Good luck

Well said...2GB of RAM will do more than a CPU upgrade. But if you already have that and want/need more, I'd say the T7200 is probably the most cost efficient processor and it is still darn powerful!
