    Hi,
I'd like to update the RAM in my mother-in-law's HP Pavilion DV2413cl laptop from the 1gb it currently has to 2gb. The memory inside it currently is 2x 512MB, 200-pin, DDR2 PC2-5300, 667MHz Small Outline Dual In-Line Memory Modules (P\N 417054-001). I would like to replace this with 2x 1GB, 667MHz, 200-pin, PC2-5300, SDRAM Small Outline Dual In-Line Memory Module (P\N 417055-001). I looked this up on the HP Partsurfer website and it said they did not support these part numbers anymore and recommended I order the replacement P\N 598861-001 instead which is a 1GB, 800MHz, PC2-6400, SDRAM SODIMM. After looking in the User Guide for the laptop it doesn't look like it supports this speed and configuration of RAM. So I'm leery about ordering it because I do not think it will work. The best case scenario would be that the system might clock-down the speed of the RAM to the max supported of 667mhz.

I wanted to know if anyone has tried to upgrade the RAM in one of these laptops before and if you think it will be ok to order the recommended replacement part memory?

    Thanks for reading!

    You should be ok.
crucial sites said you can use both 6400 or 5300 with 1gb in each slot.

I'm guessing they no longer sell the part they would have installed if you bought it from them with 2x1gb sticks so thats why they have a listed replacement. No reason why either wouldnt work for you

I went on ahead and purchased the recommended RAM from HP and set it up in the laptop. It seems to be working just fine and Windows reports 2gb of RAM now instead of 1gb. Thanks for your help.
