As I didnt have the cash around the time, plus the VAT would have a nightmare I just went for the standard config beats and had it shipped to the UK via bundlebox and saved about 200 pounds ( ~ $360) I was thinking that maybe I could get a second hand Radiance from someone selling theirs (when the next rev comes around) via ebay or the like. The Radiance was my original reason for leaning towards the envy beside other similarly specced devices, MBP ect. If anyone would be interested in selling I would be happy to pay up to $350. If not does anyone know where I could find one, other than fitted to an envy?
My other thought whether the processor could be upgraded easily, a la i5 580M. Also, would said CPU dramatically affect battery life, and to what degree? My current CPU is the i5 460M with no slice, however I'm considering it in the future.
Hoping you guys can help me out with this![]()

Im in a similar boat as you. I was originally looking at a MBP13 but once i saw the Envy I was sold. Originally I wanted to purchase the Radiance, but was waiting on the income. Once they jacked up the price I was really hesitant to pull the trigger until they got rid of the display all together. Then I saw the BE and fell in love with the look of it.
I had brought up the idea of upgrading the display myself once HP finds a new supplier for some HD 14.5" displays.
Someone brought up that if you were to purchase a display from the HP parts store, that it would come with the whole lid assembly, but I'd imagine that you could just take apart the assembly and swap the screens.
Would I be wrong in this assumption? -
I think you have a point there. Regardless the envy 14 lid looks like a tough nut to crack, in terms of replacing the screen. Do HP provide instructions anywhere about how to go about replacing the screen? I'd be surprised if they didn't. Quick check, looks like the bar at the top of the lid, along the front if it was closed, would be removed giving access to the screen.
EDIT: do you know the radiance's part number? -
That would be awesome if we could change the screen.

HP does not include instructions on how to just change the screen, their replacement part is the entire panel. That means you can't transplant a radiance screen onto your beats machine because then the back will be silver. I don't see any screws on the panel, so I suspect it'd be really difficult to just replace the screen. I've read somewhere that the radiance screen requires other components in the machine as well, but the poster didn't specify and I haven't been able to verify this claim.
To the original poster, a 580M will not improve battery life over a 460M, it might even decrease it because of the higher clock speeds. What you will get is a bit more power. And it is possible to make the changes, they use the same chipset. You can't upgrade to an i7 however. -
All this talk but still no word if they ever plan to even bring it back LoL.

Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
since that the i7 and the i5 uses the same socket yeah you can change those.
The upgrade from a 460m to a 580 will probably not improve noticeably the battery life, but looking at what has been posted about the difference of battery lives between the 430m and the 520m I will say that it should improve.
There is no difference physically between the 460m and the 580m, the pricing and the clocking is based on binning.
