    Upgrading p4-631 to a core 2 duo?

    Would this be a possible upgrade considering they use tha same socket. I have a hp8000z 17'' and the p4 runs noisy and hot. The core 2 duo would not.

    i doubt your mobo would be able to support the lower voltage reqs of the core 2 duo, so I would say no.

    631??? Are you sure. (I might be wrong) but wasnt the laptop discontinued before any of the 6XX series P4's were released or is it p4 531? I would doubt the Core 2 Duo(Conroe) would be compatible given the chipset, BIOS and the mobo need to be able to support the requirements of C2D.

    Yes, but they are not pin compatible.

    I think you mean zd8000 and yeah, you're stuck with P4's.
