I've been thinking about upgrading my computers ram and after doing a quick search I found this. Now assuming this everything is correct I should be able to add another gb of ram to my system. My question is, will I need to do anything such as increase the fan speed to stop overheating, or should adding another gig with the default fan settings not give me any trouble as far as overheating goes?

The dv6000 series can actually take 4 GBs of RAM. Memory will never be the cause of overheating.

Oh nice. Also i just read that it can only utilize 3.25 Gb of the 4 I would be installing because I have vista 32bit. Is this true and if so should I just go up to 3?

Yes it's true, but RAM is so cheap now it doesn't really matter.

Lol alright then, I'll just go with the 4gb. And one last question, where could I go about getting the latest BIOS; as far as I know, I'm still running what it came with a couple years ago?

After having updated my BIOS I decided to run a scan with crucial and for some reason it is still telling me that my max RAM is 2gb. Is there a reason for this?

Crucial just looks up your model number and queries HP's database. HP has always claimed that dv6000's up to the dv6500 only supported 2 GBs of RAM, but this is false. They support up to 4 GBs.

I got a dv9429us and although HP says the max supported memory is 2gb, I upgraded it w/ 4gb and everything is working fine.

You should be able to upgrade your RAM to 4 GB without anyproblems at all. I have a dv6458se and it supports a max of 2GB according to HP. I currently have 3GB installed. Computer is working perfectly.
