    Hello all,

I recently purchased the v4000t from hpshopping. I selected a Celeron M processor because from what I had read, it was the best value for money and differed from the Pentium M only in a slight performance gain, and extra power savings.

However after giving it more thought, I would like to change my order to a Pentium M for its power-saving capabilities, as well as to future-proof it for at least a little while longer. While I will be contacting HP tomorrow with this request, what if any are my options in upgrading the cpu myself down the road if I want to?

    Thanks in advance.

The processor should be upgradable unless HP used a different BIOS for their Pentium M & Celeron M based systems. They are pin compatible and newer Celeron M's are just Pentium M's with 400MHz FSB, 1MB cache and without any power saving features. There are service manuals available @ HP.com which will be helpful in taking apart the laptop OR instead of upgrading you could cancel your order and re-order with the Pentium M OR try the laptop see how it works and return it within the 21 day return policy HP has.

Keep in mind you'll void the warranty.

Ok, so I contacted hpshopping and asked about my options in regards to upgrading the processor. The sales person stated that I would have to cancel and reorder, and forwarded me to his supervisor. In the end he offered me a $50 credit if I didn't go ahead with the cancellation. Naturally, I accepted.

Moral of the story? I have no idea.

I'll probably upgrade the laptop down the road once the warranty runs out and if it's still adequate.

What warranty did you get? If you got an extended warranty (one that will go 2-3 years into the future) you may want to think about purchasing the new CPU soon, as the notebook market is advancing toward the new Yonah processor. When this new processor comes out, P-Ms will likely die out from on-line vendors like Newegg.com. Just something to think about ;)

Good point, but won't P-Ms get even cheaper when Yonah's emerge?

The P-M might be had at a discount for awhile, but given how short the supply is from Newegg already, it isn't likely they'll have them around for long.
