Hello all, I recently overclocked the 8600M GS on my DV9500 series, and it runs great. I upgraded to 4 GB of RAM, it runs great. I'm thinking of getting a couple of WD 320 GB HDDs, which SOUND great. I've got all the good stuff (webcam, intel 4965AGN (wifi-N), TV tuner, Windows Vista Ultimate x64 (I wanna try XP x64 on it, however), etc etc) I love this system, it's great, but my only problems with it are the monitor, which is at a crappy 1440x900, and the CPU, which is a REALLY crappy Core 2 Duo T5450 @1.66 GHz.
The monitor, I'm stuck with, I'll have to put up with it for the next little while. The CPU, however, I KNOW is socketed, and I've checked HP's product manual. The CPU can be changed, but after reading it, it would probably take me 2820925 years to do it. There are sooo many freaking steps!
I looked inside and I wondered if there is ANY EASIER way to do it? CAN I UPGRADE MY CPU without going through the HELL that HP says? Can I just open up the bottom of my laptop and change the CPU?
Thanks soo much in advance guys!

No, it can be quite a complicated procedure. It will void your warranty services with HP if you do it. I suggest doing it after your warranty expires
Once it does Pop in a T7700 2.4ghz and use Arctic silver 5 as thermal paste -
I can't imagine it would be that hard. im in the same shoes as you. although i still need to get 2 more gb of ram and bigger HDD. Do company's do this on purpose, why don't they make it a simple switch out? i'm kinda surprised HP dosen't have a program where you send in your laptop and they upgrade like your CPU or RAM or GPU, etc...

Even if HP did have an hardware upgrade program, im sure they will bump up the price. RAM upgrades can be done by anyone with half a brain and as for GPU's they arent upgradable.
You can always go to a certified laptop technician to change the CPU for you, but it will void the HP warranty though -
It won't void the warranty unless you damage something inside, that's what an HP case manager told me. He says that TECHNICALLY it DOES void the warranty, BUT if you don't damage anything, there's no way of them knowing. He says he knows because he's done it many times in the past.
Now if we could PLEASE get back to my question, I wanna upgrade the CPU, but does ANYONE at NBR know how to in an HP Pavilion? Has anyone EVER done it here?
Come on SOMEONE had to have done it before and found an easier way than what HP says. -
It's about as hard of an upgrade as it gets, shy of replacing the motherboard. Follow the steps in the service manual. If you don't think you can handle that, don't do it. This isn't something you play around with.

Well I'll probably print out the service manual, give it to a professional and hire them to do it for me.

well...i upgraded mine from a t5450 to a t9300 without any problems, but yes...you have to take the whole laptop apart to do it and then flip the motherboard over to upgrade the chip.
