I would like to upgrade the wireless component in my notebook to the fastest possible wireless speed. What options do I have?

Assuming that you want to replace the internal WiFi card, only HP cards approved and placed in the BIOS whitelist for that notebook series can be used. If you use an external solution like a USB WiFi radio, that will work but that can't use the notebook's nice internal antennas.

Thanks. How do I know what to buy and where to get it from?

Look up the approved HP part #'s in your notebook's service guide and search for them on eBay. Unfortunately, there probably isn't anything faster available than what you have. If you're thinking about upgrading from 802.11g to 802.11n and there is an approved card, you might not have the required antenna configuration. All in all I'd stick with what you have.

Thanks for that. My notebook currently only connects to my Netgear router at 11 mbs whereas my other notebooks like my Dell 520 connects at 54 and my Compaq which uses a PCMCIA Netgear card connects at 54 and bursts to 108.

I'll keep searching for the part and see what I find.

See if there's a firmware upgrade available for your router.
