So as you know most hp notebooks only offer a 7200 rpm hd. I am really looking into the dv6000 and for me its a must to get a 7200 rpm hd. So originally I planned to buy an aftermarket hd from like seagate and swap it. I was wondering if theres any risk in doing this.. such as heating issues. are hp laptops able to handle 7200 rpm hd? i just dont want to buy the hp instead of the dell and regret it because of the lack of performance.

As long as you know what you are doing then no. Make sure you properly ground yourself etc before doing it. Its usually cheaper to buy your own then upgrade and a lot of people do that. 7200 rpm is very safe in laptops and a lot of users have it. Stick to segate if you are worried about temps as their HD's tend to run the coolest.

Do note that if you are getting a system that supports 2 drives and get it with only 1 hard drive, you can only replace that 1 drive (and not insert 2). This is because if you order a single drive system, HP will not include the 2nd Hard Drive bracket.

btw, HP started selling the necessary bracket for the second HDD even if you didn't order it. Here's the thread

Those laptops are capable of supporting 7200 HDDs because HP used to offer those but I guess they are out of stock right now. Yet, HP considers HDD upgrade as warranty violation...hm, well they have no way to know you upgraded if you return the old HDD when claiming warranty repairs.
