I bought the DV2740SE and decided to format and install Windows XP Pro.

Now I need to find drivers specially for the WIRELESS card. I can't use the internet on my new notebook now because it doesn't recognize the wireless.

Any help? I tried HP website but no luck.

Is it an Intel 3945ABG or 4965AGN?

Anyways, you can get the latest drivers on Intel's website.

Or it could be from another manufacturer.

I am not sure what the wireless network model is. I installed Everest but it also doesn't say. Any ideas?

I bought it from NEWEGG, it is the model with 7150M and 3GB.

I have been looking for drivers for 2 days now.

Most of the things are working, only missing WIRELESS and SOUND.

On the hardware manager it says it is missing two drivers:

    NETWORK CONTROLLER
    PCI DEVICE

Anyone can help please? I tried a bunch of BROADCOM DRIVERS but no luck yet.

    Please guys!

After over 30 hours of extensive searching I finally was able to make the wireless network card work properly.

Now I am only missing the SOUND CARD drivers and also even after installing the driver from HP the quickbuttons aren't working.

Is the XP Pro 64 bit, because then you might have a very difficult time finding the audio drivers that work with it. I just searched it in google, and the Conexant High Definition Audio Driver is VERY difficult to find XP drivers for, especially running 64 bit. Let us know how it's going - I'll see if I can find anything else for you.

I have the same laptop, but I stuck with Vista.

The sound card drivers may be in need of the Microsoft UAA Bus Driver, a unified bus architecture "layer" that allows mfrs to write drivers to the abstraction layer rather than to a device. MS has this available as a hotfix, but only on request. I found it bundled with some other drivers while I was installing XP on my 1530.

If you install the UAA Bus Driver, go back into Device Manager, see if you have a single device with an exclamation point marked "PCI Device." If you do, right-click and select "Update Driver." That should trip the domino that engages the UAA driver which, in turn, should turn on the sound driver that talks to it. That's how it worked for me, anyway.

    Good luck; hope that helps.

It is the XP XP 32BIT version.

I will try the UUA BUS Driver and reply here as soon as I test it.

    Thank you very much!

Did you do the update thing like he said? What happened??? What happened??? The suspense is killing me.

Oh! Look what it says in that link I sent you:

"SoftPaq Number SP31994, 'Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio,' (or later) must be installed on the notebook before installing this SoftPaq. Look for SP31994 (or later) on the Software and Driver Downloads section of the www.hp.com website."

That's C R A P!!! You right clicked and did update? Or you used drivers from the link?

I did a search on HP's website for the Sound driver and this is what came up:

    http://h10061.www1.hp.com/ccsearch/...ame=&temp_hql=&search=0&submit.x=1&submit.y=6

Maybe try a later version so long as it's compatible with XP?

As far as I can tell, the first one that comes up in the search is the latest version compatible with XP Pro. I don't know.

You must have SP2 otherwise the Conexant High Definition Audio Driver won't work.

Do you need 64 bit drivers, because I have them for my 6500 and you can try them if you want. I remember that one of the HD audio devices for my 6500 never did install right, but the sound worked great. Odd, I know.

How did you get XP on the 2700? Did you use a slipstreamed XP install? And did you have to bypas the ACPI for XP (F7 in setup)? In otherwords, do you get better than 1 hour of battery life and the laptop properly shutsdown?

Basically I just formated and installed Windows XP.

I haven't tested the battery life yet. Why would it change?

The laptop shuts down properly. The only problem is that the quick launch buttons aren't working even after installing the software.

I have SP2 and even with that the driver won't work. Any ideas?

Awesome man! That worked! Now I have sound! Awesome!

In my Device Manager I only have one device now without drivers, which is called MODEM HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO.

My quicklaunch seems to be working. At least some buttons like volume and mute. But no message appears on the screen and the MUTE button doesn't become orange. Anyone know a fix?

Awesome! Thank you very much for the modem drivers.

The quick launch buttons seem to be working but they don't appear in the screen (like the volume dial) and also don't change colors (mute button for example).

In the quickplay drivers I posted, it mentions something about being able to adjust that in the settings somewhere.

"This package contains a critical security update and software that enables customers to program the Quick Launch Buttons on the keyboard and the external Easy Access Buttons Keyboard for the supported notebook models and operating systems. This application enables menu control of various buttons such as volume, internal/external display, and mute on/off."

Possible fix for dv2700t. Downgrade to F.13 BIOS (older) and then you can install XP with full ACPI support. Please confirm or deny if you think this will work.

Uhhh, yes. I have 10 licenses of Vista from my ActionPak, guess how many computers I have them installed on? None. And being a Microsoft Partner, you'd think I'd want them to succeed. Well, I do, but not at the expense of my clients. Bloated hardware requirements and crappy incompatibility issues that have only gotten WORSE from SP1 that is our for MS partners now.

Hi Jong, I used your link and I downloaded the file onto a flashdrive and ran Setup from there onto my HP. It completed the installation wizard, But nothing happened. So I went to look for the setup.exe in my C drive. I ran it, "Instillation Successful." But I still couldn't use my card or detect it. I restarted my comp, checked my device manager and it still wasn't there.

    any ideas?

Nah - I was just sharpshooting. I pretty much just looked at what I had and googled the drivers for it and it worked for the thread originator. I actually like Vista better than XP, but that may be because I'm just using my PC for web browsing and such.

It's pretty easy - I would just go to my device manager and find out what the actual name was. Then I would do a search on the HP website for the generic driver, which usually works for XP. Most of the time, they use the same hardware in similar machines of each series. It doesn't hurt to try.

Homework - I pretty sure that, unless you want to play around, you have to install quickplay - it includes the webcam driver in it. The built in HP webcams are a pain in the butt. These threads might help:

Thanks! I got everything to work =]

Vista would be perfectly fine if it didn't have serious latency issues with online gaming. I occasionally played WOwarcraft with a 1500+ latency on a Vista system; whether wireless or direct ethernet, it didn't matter. I would then play on my XP desktop with a flawless 35-55 latency.
Now i play on an XP laptop lag free with a Vista skin and now it looks even better =D.

If you search the HP forum you may find a post where someone has downgraded your model, that is how I found the information to install XP Pro on my HP dv6736nr. Search "Model no. downgrade". Also try this with Google.

The HP web cam works without Quickplay. The HP site has drivers for the web cam.

My BIOS version is and was F .28 when I installed XP Pro. The correct ACPI was installed automatically. Device Manager- Computer- "ACPI Multiprocessor PC"
