I have a compaq presario V2000 series and suddenly my wifi stops working.

I carried it around in my backback for an entire day and when I pull it out it just doesn't detect any access points, though all the drivers and what not in device manager shows that it's there.

If anyone can help in the slightest way, please do so because I'm sort of urgent for school purposes

Is there a button you have pushed or slided to that manually shut off the wifi? I was working on a Compaq months ago and it had a wifi on and off button on the side of it and I wasn't aware. Drivers and everything were there until I found figured out that was the problem. Look into it.

I am not assuming that you are a novice or anything I am just starting from the beginning. Sometimes it is the simplest things that we skip that could fix the whole issue.

On the front of most of the models of your laptop there are several LEDs beside the speaker, the first one from the left is your Wireless Connection LED. Is that light ON?

If the light is not ON then the function is not enabled. The first button from the left right under the display above the keyboard is your wireless activation button. Press the button and the light mentioned above should be ON.

I assume that you have done the above already. You could also try to uninstall the devices in your Device Manager and reinstall them again. sometimes that can help. Also you could alternatively try a System Restore to a point that you know the wireless was working.

Please post your progress so that I can help further if I can. If the wireless card was faulty it would usually not be detected or it would have a yellow exclamation mark beside the wireless card in the device manager. Hmmm... not sure what the problem is seeing as I am new to Compaq.

thankyou for all who replied. Regardless of how stupid and obvious any suggestion may seem, please post it anyways. I'm a busy student and dealing with computers is not something I do everyday.

Anyways, I'm aware of the enable/disable button on the laptop. The thing is, The blue light stayed OFF in the past while the wifi worked perfectly fine. I think you need to install another broadcom software to make it work properly

Now I've tried pressing it, but nothing happens. Sometimes the blue light comes on, but once I try to refresh and rescan for wifi connections, the blue light goes off.

I'll try to reinstall drivers and do a system restore

The WiFi card might have gone bad... or the antenna connectors might have come loose... or the card needs to be reseated in its slot (doubtful since Windows detects it)... or some unknown Windows gremlin has bit you... or someone got a cordless phone for Christmas and is hosing the 2.4GHz band... or ? Lots of possibilities. If you do try replacing the card make sure you get a card that's on HP's approved list for your notebook. The service manual will tell you. Don't forget to unplug from the wall and remove the battery before opening up the notebook.
