    Hi folks

I have just formatted my girlfriend's compaq presario v2570nr notebook, the first thing i did was the bios update but it's taking too long, actually it has been there more than 2 hours.
The BIOS Utility I used was downloaded from the hp web site directly. Actually after i executed the utility, the notebook restarted and it has been in a black screen all this time.

    What can i do?

    HELP PLEASE

For one, do NOT cut power to the PC. You could brick it. Let it run for a few more hours, and if it isn't working by then you are probably going to need to contact HP to the get the BIOS chip or motherboard replaced.

I agree with Greg regarding not cutting the power. Does the notebook appear to be doing anything else? Ie, is the power light still on, any HDD activity, any HDD activity if you just touch the touchpad, does the dvd drive have power, etc? There was a posting here a while ago from someone who reported a similar problem and it turned out the notebook had simply restarted then turned itself off. He didn't want to mess with it (smartly) because he thought the bios update was still going on. So it's worth checking that the notebook is still on & trying to update the bios! You just don't want to check it by pulling the plug/hitting the power button/etc since, as Greg pointed out, you could really brick the thing.

    Good luck.

The notebook in powered on with the power light on, the hard disk light is turned off, so aparently theres no HD activity. The notebook fan is currently on and working preety fast. The dvd drive opens when i push the button and the light of the dvd drive works fine. About the touchpad, its currently on but doesnt do anything when i try to power it off

I think you've already bricked it: "after i executed the utility, the notebook restarted and it has been in a black screen all this time". I'd shut down, forcing the shutdown by holding down the power button 4-5 seconds if necessary, then try restarting it. If that doesn't work, shutdown, unplug from the wall, remove the battery, hold down the power button for several seconds, plug back into the wall and try to start the machine. If that doesn't work... time to call HP.

Were you using the standard Windows BIOS update or something else?

Every time I have updated the BIOS on a dv9500t, it does not restart the system, it just shuts it down. Maybe it did not fully shut down?
