I thought I was set on the hp envy 14 until I started checking out the used offerings on ebay. There are quite a few used envy 15s for around 1000 that include ssds. This one has two ssds as well as a full hd screen. These deals just seem too good to be true! Is there any catch? (used ssds suck, potentially faulty hardware, no warranty, etc...) Also could i swap out one of the ssds for a disk hdd for backups and large file storage? Thanks!

Well it's an HP refurb so you have a warranty. 90 days worth. Plus you should be able to buy an extended warranty through HP or Square Trade. Many HP refurbs are customer returns that occurred during the 21 day return period.

Yes you can swap out one of the SSDs for an HDD.

And it looks to be a Envy 15 GEn2 but when you get it you want to make sure. You can tell by the video card. If it's truly the 5830 then it is a Gen 2. If it's not then it's a gen1.

Looks legit and the seller has a good feedback.

We returned my wife's Envy 15 and were about to order another from HP Direct; however, I noticed this ebay seller Colorado Computers had a large number of refurbished units.

I called and spoke with Timur, the owner and he was helpful. They offer 7 day return policy on the refurbished units plus 90-day HP warranty, which can be extended if you purchase HP total care. He said he was able to confirm the 2nd gen units with USB 3.0 because they all have serial numbers starting with "0" and the 1st gen units with USB 2.0 have serial numbers starting with "9"
