The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Using 8GB SDHC memory card on nc8430 with XP SP2

    Here is what I did to get this to work on (1st generation) HP nc8430 notebook:

    1) Make sure all software updates from HP have been installed.

    2) Make sure the FlashMedia device is ENABLED in the BIOS.

    3) Download and install this update from Microsoft:
    "Some Secure Digital (SD) cards do not work correctly on Windows XP-based computers" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/946629 .
    4) Download and install this update from Microsoft:
    "Hotfix for Windows XP that adds support for SDHC cards that have a capacity of more than 4 GB" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934428/ .
    This worked after I installed #4 above and rebooted.
