I'm trying to restore the /swsetup folder that I deleted when I first got my DV6500T. I want to restore it because I need the drivers to be installed on windows xp (recently downgraded). So is this even possible?

Yes doing a recovery install will restore the SWSetup folder but the drivers in this folder dont work for XP. You will need to download the drivers from HP, xp drivers are quite hard to get a hold of.

if you reformat using a vista anytime upgrade disc and then use the restore(f10) during boot, does the swsetup come back?

I did not save the swsetup folder, so i think my quickplay may be f***ed.

If youve done a clean install and formatted your recovery partition, then no.
