I recently bought a new high power wifi card for my laptop, but to my horror on boot up, the BIOS blocks using it with essentially a middle finger from HP, telling you to take the card out and reboot. It completely prevents booting with the card in it. One workaround is to plug the card in WHILE it's booting up, but nobody wants to do that on a continual basis. I found a forum on mydigitallife.com that has some fine people editing BIOS's on a request basis. With pretty low expectations, I submitted my request for my laptop and wifi card, and got a reply with an edited BIOS with the whitelist removed.
I take no credit for the work, and there's always a chance it's riddled with viruses, doomsday device or will brick your laptop and kill your grandma. Flash at your own risk because neither myself nor the person who edited it(TYAV134) takes any kind of responsibility of negative consequences that may result.
I did flash my HDX16T and it worked like a charm though, my JJplus ExpressRange2 card works great.
The BIOS is F32 with the whitelist of 'hp acceptable' Wifi adapters removed so any Mini PCI Express wifi card will work.
