Hey, guys. I posed this question in the DV8 thread but it's probably a question for HP laptops in general, so I hope you don't mind me reposting for additional exposure.

So my DV8 hard drive finally bit the dust. I figure as long as I'm buying a new hard drive, I may as well upgrade to an SSD. But I've heard that the HP recovery discs will only work on hard drives with the same specs as the original. Or at least the capacity must be equal to or greater than the original. But I've also heard that it will work on smaller drives, as long as all the partitions fit. Does anyone know which is true? My original hard drive is 500GB, but in reality I used much less than that. I think I could get it to fit on a 120GB drive. Since SSDs can be expensive, I don't want to waste money on a hard drive bigger than what I need. I know I could do a clean install with the Windows installer but I'd like to have the option of a factory restore.
