    Ordered a 96gb v+100 the other day for $80, intend to use it as secondary drive after removing the optical Tray..alongside the stock 500gb Hdd.
    Should I expect to gain net battery life + noticeable performance if both are installed?

    You're not going to get much battery life improvement because now you'll be running 2 hard drives instead of 1. However, your battery life will increase whenever the HDD is spun down.
