    http://www.geocities.com/hpmsgs/V2000/V2000_Systemviews.htm

The left view is different than the v2000z, it has an expansion port and exhaust vent. The v2000z has nothing there. What gives, im sure this vent would greatly reduce temps, as it is right next to the proc and hd. Any thoughts about pryin off the blank area and making a home-brewed vent?

Sorry, that is how V2000z looking like on left side with productivity ports. That is called Expansion Port 2. Something alternative to docking station.

Please check my review, it has all the photos and explanation of what it is.

BTW even if you make a whole there, it is not good, because CPU fan is designed in such a way, that it sucks some air over RAM and some other components, so it defeats the purpose of the design.

I am surprized as you are refering to some geocities photos, as we have very detailed photos and reviews of the same laptop here in this forum.!!?

Dd you see those Geocite photos, amazing clarity and info?! Why does mine not have an "expansion port"? What is it for?

As far as I get it, this is how you would dock your laptop.
About the vent, I have only felt warm air coming out from the rear of the laptop but I might be wrong. Anyways, I'm thinking of buying a cooling pad when I work on my desk.

It comes with only Productivity ports option. You can use it with HP Media Cable which comes with PCMCIA remote, Built-in consumer IR, Digital Audio, S-Video, USB, Firewire, Analog Audio etc etc(all with single cable connection, just like a dock). Please check the review again. It has the info.
