Do you know if the Bluetooth module is integrated module with the 802.11b/g Mini PCI card or is it a seperate card?

I have the Broadcom 802.11b/g Mini PCI card which I believe is part #373047-001, but HP has both 376651-001 and 376652-001 listed for the Bluetooth wireless LAN part.

I've thought it might be nice to add this feature internally, but not it it would be too expensive.

unfortunately it will be very difficult to add the internal bluetooth.

The internal bluetooth is an internal USB module that is near the S-Video module.

Last time I checked HP has it listed on their website, but not avail for purchase.

I believe HP has whitelisted the ONLY allowed mini-Pci adapters in it's BIOS. So, you can't just buy a Mini-PCI wifi adapter and install it... the BIOS wouldn't recognize it.

I believe this is true for all HP/Compaq models... though not 100% sure.

The Service Manual is not yet available. It should be ready in a month or less. (At least that is what HP customer service told me on 2-8-06. :)

Thanks for the info. Should I ever get crazy enough to tear apart my computer, at the HP Parts Store the 394254-001 Bluetooth module is not an orderable part, however I don't know if that part number is for both the 802.11b/g and the Bluetooth or just the bluetooth module.

Do you think this part will ever be available in the aftermarket?

I doubt HP will make the part available.

In a year or so, try ebay. Someone for sure will sell bluetooth modules that were pulled from faulty motherboards.

3rd party could be possible but is gonna be hard to find. Acer notebooks while back could be upgraded with just buying a small bluetooth circuit from a 3rd party supplier. and they had the same odm as some hp models

Since the bluetooth is implemeted as an internal USB module, in theory you can put any brand there.

Finding one that will fit inside the laptop will be the problem... HP/Compaq parts for your specific model will be the only parts guaranteed to fit. So, when you buy parts for a different series of laptop or brand, you take the risk of not fitting correctly, and worst not being able to return it and getting refund.

Unlike MiniPCI, I don't think there's standard for internal USB, other the connection.

Anyway, glad that the risk you have taken have worked out for you. Thanks for sharing.
