I was wondering if anyone knows if the V2000 is going to get an upgrade anytime soon. Possibly a video card upgrade like the dv1000 ?
I was thinking of ordering the dv1000 because of the newer specs, but initially I like the V2000 better. I think it might have something to do with the angled front where the speakers are and I really don’t need the quick play options.

Also if anyone has either of these models can you let me know if the fan spins during low activity like web browsing?

I was almost going to go with the AMD Turion models but after reading the posts about the constant fan noise I changed my mind.

    Any help would be appreciated!

The AMD Turion puts out a little more heat than the Pentium M especially in the small package of the V2000. I guess I am missing the DV1000 update as it still has the Intel Integrated 900 graphics. The ATI X200M is much better than the Intel solution but Integrated graphics are not the best route. I say stick with what you initially wanted. The AMD Turion is pretty much on spot with the Pentium M when it comes to performance (or GHz VS GHz) and you get the added compatibility of 64-bit extensions (with a 64-bit OS).

I was in a Best Buy store yesterday looking at the HP ZD8000 (wanted to see it in person) for about 30 minutes. There was someone next to me looking at both the DV1000 and the ZD1000 (I can't remember but it is the 15.4 inch Pentium M model) and I didn't hear their fans running at all. I also couldn't hear the ZD8000's fans running either.

There are some pro's and con's that you need to work out with. The Pentium M will run cooler and a little faster than the AMD Turion but the Pentium M comes with a worse integrated graphics solution and it lacks 64-bit compatibility. The AMD Turion runs a little hotter than the Pentium M but comes with a better integrated graphics solution and has 64-bit compatiblity.

The retail versions of the V2000(Pentium M) are supposed to have the newer graphics system & chipset.

I actually went to Best Buy yesterday and was doing the same thing. After wanting the AMD model because of the 64 bit compatibility, I liked the hp dv1000 better. I put my ear to the AMD but I couldnt tell if the fan was running or not but i did feel plenty of heat from the left palm on top of the hard drive.
I ordered Online through HP and upgraded and downgraded some things, and configured a much cheaper more powerful computer than in the retail stores. Even though I wanted the 64 bit I figured I would updade my desktop computer when the all the 64 bit apps start popping up. This way I get the best of both worlds. Hope I did the right thing.

You made a good choice, 64bit computing won't be used by most people for at least 2-3 more years. Most people have just bought Pentium M notebooks and some of them will be keeping them for quite a while. It'll also take time for people to make programs taking advantage of 64 bit.

If the dv1000 you ordered gets the same HD the V2000z you saw in the store had, it's left palm rest is going to heat up just as much. It's luck of the draw. The chassis layout is nearly identical. The Intel GPU in the dv1000 is maybe 1/3rd as fast as the ATI GPU in the V2000z.

I am not worried about the HD heat from the dv1000 I was mainly worried about the fan noise and the fact that the dv1000 was slightly smaller.
I also liked the keyboard and touchpad a bit more.
I ordered mine with the cheapest HD, and will swap it out with somthing faster and quiet.
